MUSIC AT REDEEMER
Calling All Music Makers...
...you are invited to be a part of Redeemer’s music ministry. It’s a “team effort” with lots of input from the members to most effectively use our “time” and “talents.”
Church Choir – Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings at 7:30 (members usually begin gathering about 7:15 for conversation and camaraderie). Practice is 1½ hours. We sing most Sundays alternating between the 8:30 and 10 a.m. services and for most festivals. This group is for students in High School through seasoned singers. Try-outs are required. Rehearsals include warm-ups, sectionals, devotions and prayer. Anthem selections vary from the classics to contemporary music with solo opportunities. In addition to singing for worship on a regular basis, practicing new hymns, liturgical cantoring and psalm responses, a yearly highlight for this choir is the Tenebrae Service on Good Friday. Directed by Audrey Svenningsen, come and sing to the Lord a new song!
Joy Explosion (Children’s Choir) - Rehearsals are on Sunday mornings from 11:15 to 12 noon (45 minutes). This group is for children in Grades 2 – 8. Anthems correlate to the Church Year and are chosen for age appropriateness. Many anthems are upbeat with the use of rhythm instruments. Directed by Audrey Svenningsen, the children play games, learn new songs and hymns, gain an understanding of church liturgy and have fun together with their peers from different communities who they may only have the opportunity to see once a week during Sunday School. They sing twice a month—once at 8:30 and once at 10—and at the Christmas Eve Family Service, Children's Good Friday Service, Palm Sunday and Easter.
Redeemer Ringers – Rehearsals are on Monday evenings at 7:00 pm. Practice is 1 hour. Our goal is to ring once or twice a month depending on our readiness and the schedule of the group. Redeemer has 5 octaves of handchimes. At present there are 10 members ringing 2-3 octaves. This group is for students in High School on up to 92! Some music knowledge and counting skills are beneficial. If you are interested please contact Audrey Svenningsen.
Instrumentalists/Soloists – You say your time is limited for choir practices but you would like to sing? There are other opportunities throughout the year, especially during the summer months, for vocalists and instrumentalists to provide solo and/or ensemble music for worship. Please step forward and introduce yourself to Audrey Svenningsen, Choir Director and Eleanor Nester, Organist. Pieces from band or lessons often work well at church, too.
If you are interested in sharing your musical gift with the Redeemer faith community please contact Audrey Svenningsen (asvenningsen@optonline.net; tel: 973-398-6861).
God has given us all wonderful “gifts.” Won’t you come out and share yours with us?! To God Be the Glory!
